This is the space where periodically you’ll find a picture, a paragraph or a page of insights and musings of a mad-busy international consultant based in NYC who is determined to eradicate our planet of poverty and hunger. I considered saying many a thing. Somehow its seems important to frame and focus our chat. Yeap – a chat. A brief communication involving 1 or more individuals. Yes, “1 or more” is correct – don’t you talk to yourself? As I was saying, an exchange of ideas, information or gossip. By way of framing let me start by saying that you should be careful of what you wish for.
In fall of 2000, I was sitting at what was then Pertutti Café at 114th & Broadway having coffee with a friend while I pined away for admission into a doctoral program at Columbia University. I longed to leave my undemanding, very well paying government appointed position where my skills and competencies were being totally underutilized. In 2000 I was certain, and everyone else agreed, that an advanced degree would bust open door previously closed. I knew I would be able to land a high paying glam-job, flying all over the world doing social good..I got my wish exactly. Well, almost exactly.
Fast forward to today, in 2013 I am several years on the other side of graduate school and running a boutique consulting firm, Futures Today Consulting. We provide management consulting services to not-for-profits, NGOs and government agencies. I also work with individual clients with professional and personal coaching while modeling and teaching effective management practices. I also handle evaluations and assessments for government agencies as well as community based and non-governmental organizations. As far as focus is concerned, all I can say is what a long strange trip it has been. A journey filled with huge potholes, peaks, valleys and dark storms that lasted for what seemed like an eternity. On the path I found merry travelers and wondrous surprises. All of these experiences have contributed much learning for space travel in the new century. Today, I journey on with an iMac, netbook, solar powered chargers, additional RAMS of memory, 2 communication devices, rich experiences and a network of wicked smart, friendly, goofy friends and colleagues who want to make the world a better place to live. We’re dedicated to eradicating poverty, justice and the pursuit of simple pleasures in an environmentally sound planet.
